ADVICE FOR VIDEO MAKERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS OF METEOR SHOWERS

ERIC THE CAT IS AN EXCELLENT SOURCE OF VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF METEOR SHOWERS.  HIS VIDEOS OF THE PERSEID METEOR SHOWER FROM 2024 HAVE BEEN A SOURCE OF MUCH INTEREST.  HE IS FREQUENTLY ASKED FOR ADVICE ABOUT EQUIPMENT AND SETTINGS HE USES TO PRODUCE HIS VIDEOS, SO I’VE ADDED ERIC’S YOUTUBE VIDEO DETAILING THE EQUIPMENT AND HIS TECHNIQUE.

I’D LIKE TO ADD THAT ERIC ALSO PRODUCES SOME AMAZING PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF BIRDS WHICH VISIT HIS GARDEN IN MINNESOTA, US.

Tim Mooney @TimothyVMooney

I was very interested by the question from @TimothyVMooney asking EricTheCat what camera he uses to capture such incredibly clear images of the Perseid Meteor Shower.

I hope you too have ambitions to photograph the Perseids next July/August.

Eric can I ask what equipment (camera, lens) and what settings you’re using?

This is a great camera and great value for money with the 24-70mm lens. The lens is extremely good for a kit lens and take sharp photos. The camera operates well at high ISO/in low light and the auto focus is excellent and a real strong point.

While the menus give tonnes of useful features and adjustments, it’s not organised at all intuitively and you’ll spend ages trawling through menus to find an option you’ve lost.

Battery life is great and can be charged in camera, even with a power bank when on the go.

It’s heavier then a crop sensor camera at about 1.2kg, I switched the neck strap for a (bought separately) wrist strap to ease the pressure on my neck.

All in, its a great camera that I can comfortably and reliably use for business and pleasure. Recomend
