Meteor Shower Photography
ADVICE FOR VIDEO MAKERS AND PHOTOGRAPHERS OF METEOR SHOWERS
Meteor photography requires long exposures, and even the steadiest of hands can’t hold a camera still enough for a clear shot. Heavier tripods help reduce shaking caused by wind and footsteps, but even a lightweight tripod will do. You can always place sandbags against the feet of the tripod to add weight and stability. If you don’t have a tripod, you might be able to prop your camera on or up against something around you, but be sure to secure your camera.
ERIC THE CAT IS AN EXCELLENT SOURCE OF VIDEOS AND PHOTOS OF METEOR SHOWERS. HIS VIDEOS OF THE PERSEID METEOR SHOWER FROM 2024 HAVE BEEN A SOURCE OF MUCH INTEREST. HE IS FREQUENTLY ASKED FOR ADVICE ABOUT EQUIPMENT AND SETTINGS HE USES TO PRODUCE HIS VIDEOS, SO I’VE ADDED ERIC’S YOUTUBE VIDEO DETAILING THE EQUIPMENT AND HIS TECHNIQUE.
I’D LIKE TO ADD THAT ERIC ALSO PRODUCES SOME AMAZING PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF BIRDS WHICH VISIT HIS GARDEN IN MINNESOTA, US.

Tim Mooney @TimothyVMooney
I was very interested by the question from @TimothyVMooney asking EricTheCat what camera he uses to capture such incredibly clear images of the Perseid Meteor Shower.
I hope you too have ambitions to photograph the Perseids next July/August.
Eric can I ask what equipment (camera, lens) and what settings you’re using?

I just found an owl pellet on my deck. Vultures have been at it. I hope they clean it up. It’s pretty gross, so I’m not going to take a picture of it.
Instead, here is an owl that photobombed my meteor shooting session last April. pic.twitter.com/frNUGeDYP1— EricTheCat ?? (@EricTheSpaceCat) August 16, 2024
