Needlepoint is a craft which dates back to China during 30,000 BC and spread with traders travelling the old silk road. Examples of Egyptian needlepoint have been found in the tomb of a pharoah who had lived around 1500 BC.
With the development of upholstered seating in 17th century Europe, it became a practical hard wearing covering.
This traditional craft has been handed down over the centuries and evolved with every new generation. Designs and stitches have emerged and left a legacy of beautiful handmade home decoration. The development of new fabrics and materials used to make thread have also inspired new designs.
