The Creative Artistry Of Male fiction Authors
All artists desire to create an alternative reality, richly detailed to stimulate every sense within their audience, in order to give us a recognizable reality in which to immerse ourselves.
The author has a rich palette of vocabulary with which to create the shades.
In order to set the scene for the action, the author has to create a vivid world inhabited by the characters and the action which form the cornerstone of the story.
Andy Weir’s story “The Martian”, transports the reader to the planet Mars, and the terrifying possibility of a crew member accidentally being left behind on a planet with no oxygen, water or food. Mr. Weir paints a picture of a hopeless situation, which is, against all odds mastered in minute increments.
We, the reader become immersed in this life and death struggle against an alien environment. The astronaut celebrates every small victory, sharing his elation with the reader.
Likewise, every time the elements conspire to sabotage the astronaut’s hard earned successes, the reader is plunged into the depths of despair, expecting him to be consigned to a gruesome death on an uninhabited planet.
“The Martian”, for me is a prime example of an author at the pinnacle of his creative art.

Andy Weir has never experienced the scenario he describes, but nevertheless his descriptions are so evocative that by the end of the story, the reader feels the exhaustion of an astronaut abandoned without hope, to rely upon his survival skills.
The ability of an author to transport his audience seamlessly into an imaginary world of his own imagination is pure genius.
Whether I am reluctant to take such a plunge into the imaginary world of the female author, or if it is the gift of the male authors to create more vivid fictional worlds, I am unable to conclude.
However, I proclaim without shame that I am in general a fan of male authors rather than females.

A survival story for the 21st century and the international bestseller behind the major film from Ridley Scott, starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.
I’m stranded on Mars.
I have no way to communicate with Earth.
I’m in a habitat designed to last 31 days.
If the oxygenator breaks down, I’ll suffocate. If the water reclaimer breaks down, I’ll die of thirst. If the hab breaches, I’ll just kind of explode. If none of those things happen, I’ll eventually run out of food and starve to death.
So yeah. I’m screwed.
