How To Lose Weight And Stay Slim For Life

Teenage puppy fat
Unhealthy fast-food diet weight gain
Middle age spread
Old-age sedentary life-style weight gain
No two people are alike and each of us face a life-time of struggle and trauma.
There are always excuses we use to rationalize gaining a few pounds of fat. Once we’ve slipped into that habit of eating slightly more than previously or our life-style pushes us into our favourite fast-food restaurant more frequently, our clothes begin to feel tighter, we have less energy when invited to join in a sport and the bathroom scales display higher numbers.
It is only human to make excuses for the changes our body shows us in many different ways, but our mind is a tricky blighter sometimes, especially when under stress.
Whether it is a broken relationship causing lack of self-esteem, too much pressure of work to take the time to prepare wholesome meals or the dramatic change from being an employee or employer to a retiree, we are responsible for the maintenance of our body. Nobody else can be blamed for our weight gain and nobody else can take responsibility when we decide to make a change and shed our excess weight.
I know this is a controversial subject when commercials tell us that obesity is a disease, then flaunt a fast-food product laced with fat and addictive flavourings to cause a saint to salivate, but the responsibility lies with our own will power to elevate our health above our greed.
Okay, so now you hate me and want to stop reading this article which promotes simple life-style changes which offer the means to help lose weight and stay slim for life.
I have faced much criticism for promoting weight loss when I appear to remain at a constant dress size and weight, but don’t believe everything that you see. I have gained uncomfortable pounds/kilos, my clothes have squeezed my stomach after every meal and I have felt so bloated and lethargic that I happily slob around my home in pyjamas rather than face the world in my bulging jeans. You know how I feel I bet.
I’m fortunate to not have a sweet tooth, but I adore cheese and meat, potatoes, chips, rice, and alcohol.
To my shame, I have proudly boasted my ability to use self-control to return to my regular size and weight, but I confess that ill health has actually played a large part in causing my body to shed, not only the excess weight but on two occasions, food-poisoning left little more than my skeleton.
As a result, I have resorted to vitamin and nutritional supplements just to maintain a working body and brain because my digestive system had been destroyed by a bacterial infection that caused severe diarrhea which went untreated for several weeks.
As a result of my 67 years of life, and a couple of close encounters with death, I hope you trust me to make some suggestions which may help you maintain a healthy weight and a body size which feels comfortable and looks good when you look in the mirror.
Before making rash promises to yourself, read my words several times and understand that I am no guru. You will need to do your own research because, as I said at the start,
“NO TWO PEOPLE ARE ALIKE”.
We all have our own reasons for gaining weight and we all have our own reasons to make the commitment to lose those extra pounds/kilos.
Nothing tastes as good as seeing your best self in the mirror
The first rules of managing your weight:
- Eliminate processed food, fast-food outlets, and sweet treats.
- Pledge to limit sugar in all your drinks.Slowly adjust your taste-buds to unsweetened beverages, but be patient with yourself.
- Keep meals as whole foods as much as possible.
- Eat smaller portions.
- View cakes and desserts as an enemy sent to tempt you from your chosen goal.
- Never enter the sweets and biscuits isles when shopping, (they are designed to attract you to them, but the designers are your enemy).
- When you see a bar of chocolate, imagine how it looks when it has melted in the sun. Would you be attracted to a bar of sticky brown goop? No, it looks disgusting and contains outrageous quantities of sugar and flavourings which gang up on your imagination, to seduce to eat this chemical cocktail.
- Just for me and all the savoury addicts:those savoury snacks or that cheese are almost pure fat. Save your taste-buds for a healthy balanced meal which you can sit down and enjoy with family or friends. That balanced meal will taste all the more delicious for having postponed instant gratification.
Nothing tastes as good as seeing your best self in the mirror.
Now is a good time to do some more research about healthy nutrition. What works for one person is not appropriate for everyone. We all need a healthy eating regime which suits our own taste buds and our life.
